Fire Safety
Your Home

According to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), human error and equipment problems associated with cooking, heating, and the equipment that provides electrical service are among the leading causes of U.S. home fires. Combined, they represent nearly half of all U.S. home fires and one-third of associated home fire deaths each year.

Know the Facts - According to NFPA...

  • On average, there are 91,700 reported home fires each year associated with cooking equipment, killing 327 people and injuring 4,607.
  • Cooking fires are the #1 cause of home fires and home fire injuries.
  • Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home cooking fires.
  • Three in every 10 reported home fires start in the kitchen – that's more than any other place in the home.

Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week is sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (N F P A). N F P A has sponsored Fire Prevention Week since 1922.

Cooking, heating, and electrical fires are among the nation's leading causes of home fires, accounting for an annual average of nearly 50% of home fires and almost one-third of associated fire deaths. This year the theme is "Cover All the Bases and Strike Out Fire"
